Title: "Preventing and responding to violence against women and girls: what works?"

Rachel Jewkes is Executive Scientist: Research Strategy in Office of the President and former Unit Director of the Gender and Health Unit of the South Africa Medical Research Council, based in Pretoria, South Africa. She also serves as Director of the What Works to Prevent Violence Global Programme, as well as of the Secretary of the Sexual Violence Research Initiative. She has been a member of the National Council Against Gender-Based Violence in South Africa and the PEPFAR Scientific Advisory Board and the WHO’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee for HIV-AIDS (STAC-HIV). Jewkes studied Medicine, receiving a Masters in Community Medicine (MSc) and a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London. She is an Honorary Professor in the faculty of Health Sciences, School of Public Health at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and is an A-rated researcher with the South African National Research Foundation. Jewkes moved from England to South Africa in 1994.
She has spent 20 years undertaking research into violence against women and girls and gender inequity and health, mainly in South Africa. She was the lead technical advisor to the UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific, is a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Injury and Violence Prevention and Control and the WHO Scientific and Technical Advisory Group on HIV.
She has authored over four hundred publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and reports. She has worked closely with the South African Government over many years on sexual violence policy in the health sector. She is a founder member of the SVRI, was the Secretary for 15 years and is a member of the Leadership Council. From 2013-2020, she was the Consortium Director of the DFID-flagship What Works to Prevent Violence? Global Programme, which was conducted across 14 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East to generate knowledge on prevention of violence against women and girls.

Title: "Policy, power and progress: Driving systemic change"

Panagiotis Pentaris is an Associate Professor of Social Work & Thanatology, with international education and practice experience in disaster work and end of life care.
Panagiotis is the Director of Research and Research Studies for the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies at Goldsmiths University of London, UK, where he is also acting as Deputy Head.
His work has focused on death, dying, bereavement, religion, belief, gender and sexual diversity, and disaster social work. He is the founding leader of the Thanatology Research Lab at the University of London, and his research has explored aspects of death and dying in social science and social policy internationally.

Assoc Prof. Ruth Nsibirano is the Head of Department of Gender in the Institute of Gender and Development Studies, Makerere University. Ruth holds a PhD in Gender Studies, an MA in Women Studies and an Hons Degree in Library and Information Science of Makerere University. Ruth has over twenty years’ experience in teaching of Gender. Ruth is a competent gender trainer and has developed a number of training manuals to empower women and youth in business and life skills. Ruth is a competent gender analyst and researcher. Research interests include gender and ICT; integration of technology in teaching and learning (eLearning, distance education or blended learning); Gender Based Violence; Gerontology and Mainstreaming of Gender in STEM and Development practice.

Title: "The Importance of a Gender-Based Approach in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism"

Raneeta Mutiara is an associate faculty member at the Singapore University of Social Sciences and a Ph.D. candidate specializing in public safety and security. With a background in international relations and Southeast Asian studies, her work bridges theory and practice across gender, politics, and extremism. Her interdisciplinary research and teaching experience focus on how feminist perspectives can inform public safety frameworks, specifically examining the role of women in public safety and security. Raneeta’s expertise contributes to rethinking women’s agency in security, especially in navigating religious, political, and cultural dynamics across global and local contexts.

Title: "Beyond Inclusion: Reimagining Institutions of Higher Learning through a Gender-Justice Lens"

Dr. Consolata Kabonesa is an Associate Professor at the School of Women and Gender Studies, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Makerere University, Uganda; and a National Gender Trainer; a Trainer of Trainers for Gender and Equity Budgeting; a National Recipient of the Educationists Medal; and a former Dean of School of Women and Gender Studies. She has over 25 years of experience as a gender analyst, researcher and trainer, and facilitator in gender and related areas of agriculture and land, education, water, health, employment, climate change, gender budgeting, human rights, gender based violence, and Information Communication Technology. These areas are crucial in the promotion of human development and gender equality. Dr. Consolata won the Meritorious award and Cash Award, American Embassy, Uganda in 1988 and 1990 respectively. She again in 1993 won the John W. Price, International Understanding Award, UIUC and in 2005, she was nominated and won the Outstanding Lecturer award, at the Faculty of Social science, Makerere University. She also won The Role Model Diva Awards in 2011 and went straight to win two more in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Title: "Echoes from the Caribbean to the World: Mapping the Region's impact on Gender and Sexuality"

Dr Bean joins the Mona Unit after over 15 years of stellar service to The University of the West Indies and IGDS as Senior Lecturer and Graduate Coordinator at the IGDS Regional Coordinating Office.
Dr Bean has researched extensively in the areas of women and gender in Caribbean history, women in conflict situations, gender and education, women in the hotel and tourism industries as well as other critical areas. A proud Historian by training, she holds a PhD in History from the University of the West Indies, has taught at the tertiary level for over 20 years and has been trained in online and face to face instruction, research supervision and education for change from the University of the West Indies and the University of Toronto. Dr Bean has also been involved in programme and curriculum development at The UWI, and has conducted numerous regional and global training exercises and research projects. She has served on many UWI Boards and committees and has also been the recipient of visiting fellowships such as the Xavier-Tulane Partnership for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (XUTULAC) and Erasmus+ staff mobility award to the University of Iceland’s Gender Equality Studies & Training Programme (GEST) Programme.
Dr Bean has published on many aspects of gender and development, including 2 books and over 20 refereed book chapters, journal articles and training manuals. Her first single-authored book: Jamaican Women and the World Wars: On the Front Lines of Change was published in 2017 by Palgrave MacMillan. Along with Professor Verene Shepherd, she is co-editor of the forthcoming collection: Gender Based Violence in the Caribbean: Historical Roots, Contemporary Continuities, being published by The University of the West Indies Press. She was also invited by the RJR Gleaner Communications Group to write Jamaican Women of Distinction: Holding up Half the Sky in 2020 celebrating 60 phenomenal women, and is co-author of the forthcoming historical manuscript With Eyes on the Skies and the Prize: Celebrating 50 years of the Airports Authority of Jamaica with Professor Andrew Spencer, being published by Ian Randle Publishers.
Dr Bean actively contributes to the region’s secondary education through Caribbean Examination Council as Assistant Chief Examiner for CSEC History and was recently appointed to the Board of the National Education Trust (NET). A passionate gender and youth advocate, she serves as Distinguished President of the Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals Kingston and is also co-founder (with Alia Wedderburn) of the foundation I Have Pretty Hair focusing on empowering youth to be proud of, and loving towards, their natural hair.

Dr. Naresh Prajapati is a Senior Doctoral Fellow in Law at the Central University of Punjab, India, specializing in Climate Change Law, Human Rights, Gender Studies, and Environmental Law. He is working on a Ph.D. thesis focused on judicial approaches to human rights protection amid climate change in South Asia.Dr. Prajapati holds a gold medal in B.A. (Hons.) Geography and an LL.M. in Environmental Law. He has conducted research in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives and has published papers on climate justice and sustainable development. He has presented at international conferences and is actively involved in academic publishing as a Lead Editor for the Journal of International Women’s Studies (Scopus Index), Senior Editor for the Africa University Law Review, and a reviewer for IGI Global Scientific Publishing, AAMR (Scopus Index), and ISRN Journal.

Prof. Shivani Singh is an Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary School of Science, Savitribai Phule Pune University, specializing in Modern Indian History, women’s educational history, and the history and philosophy of science. Her research explores women’s life narratives, career histories, and indigenous immunization methods in India. She has been instrumental in developing and revising the BA Liberal Arts program in line with the National Education Policy 2020. A recipient of the Indian Council of Historical Research postdoctoral fellowship at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, she has presented her work at international conferences and published extensively. Beyond academia, she is a certified Kerala mural artist, poet, and creative writer, reflecting her diverse intellectual and artistic pursuits.

Dr. St. Hanggar Budi Prasetya, M.Si, is the Vice Rector I of the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta and a distinguished scholar in the fields of Pedalangan and Performing Arts. With a strong academic background, including a Ph.D. in Performing Arts from Universitas Gadjah Mada, his research spans traditional Javanese arts, sound aesthetics, and gamelan musicology. As a senior lecturer, he teaches courses on Anthropology and Sociology of Pedalangan, Art Theory, and Research Methods. Dr. Prasetya has contributed extensively to academic publications, cultural preservation projects, and international conferences, reinforcing his expertise in Indonesian traditional arts and their contemporary relevance.
