The Success Story of The 3rd International Conference on Gender and Sexuality 2020

The 3rd International Conference on Gender and Sexuality was held on the 15th – 16th October on a virtual platform under the theme “Is a Human Rights Framework Enough to Promote Transformative Gender and Sexuality?”. The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Asian-African Association for Women, Gender and Sexuality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Department of Sociology and Social Work, University of Nairobi, Kenya, and University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa as the partners for this year’s conference.

The conference provided an opportunity for delegates to share their valuable knowledge and experience of women studies from various perspectives.  Moreover, the conference welcomed 35+ participants from 15 countries around the world.

The opening remarks of Gender Studies 2020 were made by the Conference Chair Prof. Shahana Rasool, Department of Social Work, University of Johannesburg, South Africa together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

Keynote Forum and Plenary Speech

The Keynote forum was represented by Dr. Pauline E. Bullen from University of Guyana, Guyana under the title “The Way Forward: Transformative Feminisms and Human Rights” and Madu Dissanayake, Assistant Representative UNFPA, Sri Lanka under the title “In the 21st Century, What Should be the Social Expectation of Men & Women, Where Do We Draw The Line or Should We Draw A Line At All?, Special Focus to Sexuality and Gender Across the Life Cycle “. Eman Borg, President – LGBTI+ Gozo, Malta was the plenary speaker of the conference and he delivered his talk under the title “Activism and the Role That Activism Plays to Translate Laws into Grassroots Actions”.

Gender Studies 2020 consisted of over 35+ participants from 15+ countries around the world, including Sri Lanka, India, United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, Morocco, Pakistan, Malta, Uganda, Italy, Guyana. The Conference provided an opportunity for delegates to share their valuable knowledge of Gender Studies and sexuality from various perspectives.  This conference had representation from almost every continent and regions across the world, to share views and ideas on gender issues, network with international colleagues and made the conference a meaning the full opportunity for engagement.
